These Motown type treatments were commissioned by the merchandising company Bravado for Motown Records. The idea behind the line of concepts was to take memorable lyrics from our favorite songs and execute designs. Among them include the Jackson 5′s ABC, Frankie Valli & the Four Season’s Working My Way Back to You, and the Temptations’ Aint’ to Proud to Beg. Injecting a level of nostalgia into the imagery was a focal point for the pieces, but while adding a modern twist.

Oliver Barrett on his Temptations design – The Temptations are a favorite of mine and I was able to pick a song to base the design on. It had to be “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” I immediately thought to use David Ruffin’s glasses as the focus and create a type treatment that utilizes the space in the lenses in an organic and lively manner.
