Baseheads Promoted a weekly drum ‘n’ bass show at one of Cleveland’s most popular nightclubs. They needed a flier design that would reflect the aggressive nature of the ‘dnb’ music scene they were featuring. Additionally, the fliers had to appeal to a client base that included a wide range of mostly male clubbers, ravers and weekend warriors. The fliers were also being used for a month at a time. So, the design needed to be good enough that someone would want to hold onto it for more than one night.
If I could script a ‘dream project’ for a ‘dream client’ – this would be it. Basehead’s owner was a huge fan of our work and put virtually no restrictions on what we did.
I always feel that we do our very best work when our clients trust us and take a hands-off approach. My solution was to create powerful illustrations that either featured a drum motif or a female motif. Both would appeal to our target audience.
Despite the fact that these events were held on a Wednesday night; Spy bar was absolutely packed each night for the entire run of this campaign. The night was so successful, that even after the promoter left town – the club kept the night going and paid us to continue this series of flyers.
