This Poster was designed for the Cedar Lee Theatre located in Cleveland Heights, OH. The Cedar Lee Theatre is northeast Ohio’s premier venue for the best in foreign, independent and specialty films. It was used in the theatre as the Hitchcock Series Promo poster and was also used at the Cleveland International Film festival. The client, Cleveland Cinemas, wanted a poster that would bring some excitement to the series and attract more of a young audience. This is the first collaboration we’ve worked on with Cleveland Cinemas and we look forward to future projects. Upcoming projects include one-off showings and the fan favorite Cult Series.
The original concept was to do a poster that mixed visual elements from all the films showing to compile a Hitchcock ‘tapestry’ of sorts. Instead we opted to do a portrait of the man himself. It’s a pen and ink illustration drawn on gray paper. The grayscale piece exudes the mystery quality found in most of Hitchcock’s work, while the text block at the bottom is written in first person to hark back to the days where he would personally introduce his films. So when you read the poster, it’s as though Alfred is looking and speaking to you personally. – Chris Comella
